Kanya & Kumari Puja is a sacred Navarathri tradition honoring young girls as living embodiments of the Divine Feminine. The puja recognizes the purity, innocence, strength, wisdom, and creative energy of Goddess Durga reflected within every girl.

During Sharada Navarathri Mahotsavam 2026, Sri Ganesha Temple Plano will conduct a special Kanya & Kumari Puja on Durga Ashtami, Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Girls between the ages of 2 and 9 will be honored as representations of the nine divine forms of Goddess Durga.

Devotees are invited to participate in this meaningful worship and seek the blessings of the Divine Mother for protection, courage, wisdom, health, happiness, and spiritual well-being.

The Spiritual Significance of Kanya & Kumari Puja

In the Hindu tradition, the Divine Mother is understood as Shakti—the sacred energy that sustains all creation. During Kanya & Kumari Puja, this divine presence is honored in young girls, whose innocence and purity are regarded as expressions of Devi.

The worship reminds devotees that divinity is not limited to an image or temple sanctum. The presence of the Divine can also be recognized and respected within every living being. By honoring children with devotion, kindness, and humility, devotees worship the sacred feminine energy that nurtures, protects, creates, and transforms the universe.

The Nine Divine Forms of the Goddess

During the puja, participating girls are welcomed and honored with prayers and traditional offerings. Devotees seek their blessings with the understanding that they symbolically represent the presence of Goddess Durga.

Why Is the Puja Performed on Durga Ashtami?

Durga Ashtami, the eighth day of Navarathri, is one of the most sacred days dedicated to Goddess Durga. It celebrates the Divine Mother's power to remove negativity, overcome obstacles, protect devotees, and restore righteousness and spiritual harmony.

Performing Kanya & Kumari Puja on Durga Ashtami is considered especially auspicious because the children are worshipped as manifestations of the same divine energy honored throughout Navarathri.

Offerings for Kanya & Kumari Puja

Devotees may offer any of the following items for the participating children. All donated items will be distributed to them as part of the observance:

• Sweets
• Bangles
• Haldi and kumkum
• Dresses for girls ages 2–9
• Toys for girls
• Hairbrushes
• Hair clips
• Mirrors

Offerings should be new, clean, age-appropriate, and suitable for distribution to the children.
