Shri Tukaram Maharaj was initiated into the Varkari Sampradaya by the Dehu and Alandi Samasthans, and he has been instrumental in propagating the Varkari Sampradaya and Hari Bhakti through Hari Kirtans across the world. He is the Adikari of the Vishwa Varkari Samasthan in Kadayanallur, Tamil Nadu.
