The Story Behind Varalakshmi Vratham
The significance of Varalakshmi Vratham is beautifully narrated in the Skanda Purana.
Long ago, there lived a noble and deeply devoted woman named Charumathi in the city of Kundina. Known for her kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion, Charumathi faithfully cared for her family while worshipping Goddess Lakshmi with sincerity.
One night, Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared in her dream and instructed her to observe a sacred Vratham on the Friday before the full moon during the month of Shravana. The Divine Mother assured her that anyone who performed this Vratham with devotion would receive blessings of prosperity, family happiness, good health, and spiritual merit.
Filled with faith, Charumathi gathered the women of her community, and together they performed the Vratham exactly as instructed. Tradition tells us that Goddess Varalakshmi showered them with abundant blessings, establishing a sacred observance that has been lovingly continued for generations.
