Aadi Amavasya Tarpanam 2026

Aadi Amavasya Tarpanam is a sacred Vedic ritual performed to offer water, sesame seeds, and prayers to departed ancestors. Observed during the auspicious month of Aadi, this Amavasya is regarded as one of the most spiritually significant occasions for performing Tarpanam. Hindu tradition teaches that these offerings help bring peace to departed souls, support their journey toward Moksha, and invite the blessings of the Pitrus upon their descendants.

Sri Ganesha Temple will conduct Aadi Amavasya Tarpanam on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 9:30 AM. Advance registration is required for all participants. A list of required materials is available upon request from the temple front desk. Devotees are encouraged to participate in this sacred annual observance to honor their ancestors with devotion and gratitude.

Why Do We Perform Bali & Tarpanam?

In Hindu tradition, our ancestors, known as Pitrus, are honored with prayers and sacred offerings as an expression of gratitude for the lives, values, and blessings they have passed down through generations. Bali and Tarpanam are among the most important ancestral rites prescribed in the Vedas and are performed to pray for the peace, spiritual elevation, and liberation (Moksha) of departed souls.

These sacred observances also remind us of our responsibility to remember those who came before us. It is believed that when the Pitrus are worshipped with sincerity, they bless their descendants with peace, health, prosperity, family harmony, and protection. Karkidaka Vavu and Aadi Amavasya are especially auspicious occasions to perform these ancestral offerings and continue this timeless Sanatana Dharma tradition.
