Karkidaka Vavu Bali 2026

Karkidaka Vavu Bali is one of Kerala's most sacred annual ancestral observances, dedicated to honoring departed parents, grandparents, and forefathers. Performed during the auspicious Karkidaka Vavu Amavasya, this sacred offering expresses gratitude to one's ancestors while praying for their eternal peace, liberation (Moksha), and continued blessings upon the family. According to tradition, offering Bali with sincerity is believed to help satisfy the Pitrus (ancestors), remove ancestral karmic obstacles, and bring harmony, prosperity, and spiritual well-being to future generations.

Sri Ganesha Temple invites devotees to participate in Karkidaka Vavu Bali on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Two ceremony batches will be conducted at 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, and advance registration is required. The temple will provide all Bali materials, making it easy for devotees to participate in this sacred tradition. Both men and women are welcome to perform the Bali offerings.

Why Do We Perform Bali & Tarpanam?

In Hindu tradition, our ancestors, known as Pitrus, are honored with prayers and sacred offerings as an expression of gratitude for the lives, values, and blessings they have passed down through generations. Bali and Tarpanam are among the most important ancestral rites prescribed in the Vedas and are performed to pray for the peace, spiritual elevation, and liberation (Moksha) of departed souls.

These sacred observances also remind us of our responsibility to remember those who came before us. It is believed that when the Pitrus are worshipped with sincerity, they bless their descendants with peace, health, prosperity, family harmony, and protection. Karkidaka Vavu and Aadi Amavasya are especially auspicious occasions to perform these ancestral offerings and continue this timeless Sanatana Dharma tradition.
