Yajur Veda Upakarma 2026
Sri Ganesha Temple Plano invites devotees to participate in Yajur Veda Upakarma 2026 on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Yajur Veda Upakarma is one of the most significant annual observances for followers of the Yajur Veda. This sacred ceremony marks the renewal of one's commitment to Vedic study and dharmic living through the changing of the Sacred Thread (Yajnopavita), Rishi Tarpanam, and prayers offered to the great Vedic sages. Upakarma serves as a reminder of the lifelong responsibility to preserve and practice the wisdom of the Vedas with sincerity, discipline, and devotion.
This year, the ceremony will be conducted in two batches to provide a more comfortable experience for devotees:
Batch I: 7:00 AM
Batch II: 8:00 AM
Only 25 participants will be accommodated in each batch. All Thalai Avani Avittam (First Upakarma) participants will be placed in Batch II, which includes Homam and Vedarambham (the formal commencement of Vedic learning). Participants performing their first Upakarma should register accordingly and bring fruits, betel leaves, and betel nuts. All devotees are requested to complete their morning Sandhya Vandanam before arriving, and unmarried Brahmacharis should also perform Samidadhanam prior to the ceremony.
Items to Bring: Panchapatram, Uddharani, plate, Vibhooti, Chandanam, a small quantity of turmeric powder, Kumkumam, and a handful of rice mixed with black sesame seeds (Ellu) for Tarpanam.
