The Lesson of Adi Shankaracharya and the Kanakadhara Stotram
One of the most beloved stories associated with Goddess Lakshmi comes from the life of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya.
As a young monk seeking alms, Adi Shankaracharya approached the humble home of a poor woman. Although she possessed almost nothing, she searched her home and found a single amla (gooseberry), which she offered with complete sincerity and devotion.
Deeply moved by her selfless generosity, Adi Shankaracharya composed the Kanakadhara Stotram, a hymn praising Goddess Mahalakshmi and praying that Her compassion be bestowed upon the woman. Tradition tells us that the Divine Mother responded by showering her home with golden amlas, transforming her life through Her grace.
